Calling all youth ages 8 – 16 years to attend the Roots Summer Leadership Academy! 2022 marks the camp’s 10th year and we want all community members to be a part of the celebration. With comprehensive programming offered by the New Mexico Black Leadership Council, the camp utilizes visual arts, movement, voice, and drama to teach STEAM principles in a culturally-enriching environment, while also instilling in the youth pivotal social-emotional learning concepts to ensure they thrive in everything they do.
The camp will be run from July 11 through July 28, 2022, with camp programming from 9 AM to 4 PM.
Before care: 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM
After Care: 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Each year, the Roots camp has embraced a theme. We are happy to share with you all this year’s theme: SAWUBONA, which means “I SEE YOU SEEING ME” in traditional Zulu culture. Every discipline covered in the camp utilizes this theme to create the curriculum. Learn more about Sawubona
Lastly, the youth who participate will have the opportunity to perform in the culminating capstone program, The Harambee Celebration. This presentation will allow all youth in the program to demonstrate the skills developed in the camp in a grand performance held right at the First Unitarian Church.
